Mustermann Jazzing2 uses the voice as melody, texture and sometimes as pure rhythm. Her work sits between song form and open improvisation, always close to the feeling of a room and the people listening inside it.

JazzingFfm: What makes a vocal phrase feel honest to you?

Mustermann Jazzing2: It has to have a reason to arrive. I like phrases that sound as if they were found in the moment, even when the material is composed. The voice reveals very quickly when something is only decorative.

JazzingFfm: How do you build trust with a band?

Mustermann Jazzing2: By listening before I add anything. If everyone is trying to prove something, the music gets crowded. Trust begins when the band can leave space and still feel connected.
